Richard Phibbs

FINE ART

Richard Phibbs brings an artist’s eye to every photo he takes in advertising, magazines and his personal work. Richard Phibbs has shot ad campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Nautica, Ray Ban, the Gap, Banana Republic and Buick, and directed TV commercials for fashion and fragrance brands. His editorial work has appeared in Vogue Hommes, Vanity Fair, Travel and Leisure, Paper, GQ, Surface, Esquire, and the New York Times Magazine. His portraits give a revealing "take" on subjects as varied as Hillary Clinton and Bork, Beyonce and Almodovar, Jay-Z and Tiger Woods. His work has been featured in several group shows, including the current DT (Double Take) exhibition in Antwerp. A decade's worth of Richard Phibbs’ photos appears in four upcoming books, one featuring his dog Huck Finn. Traveling twice to Bucharest, he has taken more than 100 portraits of children with HIV, many of them orphans. The photos - some stark, some heartbreaking, many surprisingly life-affirming - are the centerpiece of a planned traveling exhibit and a soon-to-be-published book; both will raise funds to buy vital medications and help the surviving children find a place in an adult world.
